The University of Arizona in Tucson created an impressive Women’s Plaza of Honor dedicated to celebrating women of all backgrounds who have had a great influence in our state. The Women's Plaza is an inviting gathering place located west of Centennial Hall and east of the Arizona State Museum and Haury buildings. Its unique design of plants, lighting, and water intermingles with archways, benches, and sculptural elements to represent the stages of a woman's life. The Women's Plaza offers alumni, employees, students, community members, and visitors the opportunity to commemorate these outstanding women. The vegetation ranges from palm trees, shrubbery, colorful flowers, and more.
The Women's Plaza provides a peaceful space to sit in the shade and enjoy time outside. It is uncommon to find spaces with thermal comfort outdoors in hot Arizona, but the Women’s Plaza achieves it. It is a one-of-a-kind space that may have otherwise gone unnoticed.
The Women’s Plaza website provides an extensive list of all the women recognized. Honorees can be found on the arches, benches, pavers, retaining walls, and sculptures. Click here for opportunities to donate and to gift a name.
