December 1-January 6 ~ Riordan Mansion State Historic Park in Flagstaff has decorated for Christmas, and guided tours during this time include glimpses of folklore and traditions of Christmas past and present. Tours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. View their website here for more information.
December 3 ~ Vail Preservation Society’s 17th Annual ‘Tis the Season & Lighting of the Holiday Lights event from 11 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Includes live performances, Holiday Market, Car Show, Petting Zoo, Crafts and Games, Walking Tours, Food trucks and Tree lighting. View more about the event here.
December 3 ~ The Tubac Presidio Cast of Characters Walking Tour from 9:30-11 a.m. Join a docent-led walk through the Park and to the historic buildings of Old Tubac to learn about some of the many characters who have made history in the Village of Tubac. December 3 and 4 ~ The 37th Annual F.Q. Story Home Tour & Street Fair in Phoenix will be held on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Buy your tickets online early or in-person the day of. More information about the event here.
December 9 ~ Casa Grande Main Street’s Downtown After Dark from 5-8 p.m. at the Neon Sign Park. Vote for your favorite Downtown Holiday display put on by their Downtown businesses. Listen to live music in the Neon Sign Park beginning at 6pm (bring your own chairs and blankets).
December 9, 10, 16, & 17 ~ Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation’s Home for the Holidays event at Taliesin West in Scottsdale will be held from 4-8 p.m. Visitors of all ages can enjoy a special version of Taliesin West that pays tribute to the seasonal decorations, and festivities the Wright’s shared with their artistic community at our very own holiday celebrations. Engaging staff will also share stories and insights about the winter celebrations at Taliesin West. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for kits 6-18, and free for kids 5 and under. December 10 ~ Learn to Bird at Tumacácori National Historical Park from 8:30 a.m. until you are done. Both the beginner birder and experienced birder are welcome. This adventure takes place on and off trail in varied habitats for as long as birds are active, up to about two hours. A park pass or entry fee is required. Registration is not required. December 10 ~ Victorian Christmas at Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy free admission, kids activities, a scavenger hunt, caroling, stories, sleight of hand magic, and more. After the event, the Tombstone Light Parade starts at 6 p.m. More information about this event can be viewed here.
December 10 ~ Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and Museum’s Shaw D. Kinsley Lecture Series Presents: Jack Lasseter's "The Story of the Spanish Presidios here at Tubac & Tucson” inside the 1885 Old Schoolhouse from 2-3 p.m. Snacks will be served. $15 per lecture. December 10 & 11 ~ Pueblo Grande Museum in Phoenix will host the 45th Annual Indian Market, which will have over 100 vendors of beautiful native art, hands-on demonstrations, and exemplary entertainers from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 (entrance to museum included) and the market is free to Indigenous peoples, military personnel (active and retired), Friends of Pueblo Grande Museum members, children twelve and below, and police and fire. December 12 ~ Flagstaff's Riordan Mansion State Historic Park’s Lunchtime Lecture: Carl Gorman, Philip Johnston, and the Navajo Code Talkers at 12:15 p.m. Join Museum of Northern Arizona Docent Jerry Snow for this IN PERSON presentation. December 17 ~ Tumacácori National Historical Park and Tubac Presidio State Historic Park’s Park-to-Park Hiker's Shuttle until 12 p.m. Enjoy Tumacácori National Historical Park, Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, and the free shuttle which runs until 12:00 p.m. Participants who complete the route between Tumacácori and Tubac will also earn their free "I Hike For Health" pin. The shuttle is free, but entrance fees at Tumacácori and Tubac apply. Check their website prior to departure here to see if it's been cancelled since registration is not required or call (520) 377-5060.
December 18-25 ~ Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and Museum’s Tubac Chanukah Lights each night from 5-6 p.m. This event is free, and no registration is required. More information about this event can be found here.
December 18 - Red Rock State Park’s Archaeology Hike at 1 p.m. The hike will identify the various archaeological features visible from park trails and interpret them into the wider context of important regional Sinagua sites. The guide will also touch on ideas of other cultures that likely have made use of the park’s resources. The hike will last about 1½-2 hours, with an elevation gain of about 250 feet, along easy to moderate trails and may begin with a short presentation in the theater. Hike is included with park entrance fees of $7 for ages 14 and up, $4 for ages 7-13 and free for ages 6 and under.
